A Glimpse into Elegance: The Japanese Summer Garden at RHS Hampton Court 2016

Transport yourself to a world of timeless beauty as we delve into our remarkable journey in constructing the Japanese Summer Garden at the RHS Hampton Court, a Silver Medal winner in 2016. This stunning garden was a testament to our dedication to craftsmanship, brought to life through the visionary design of Saori Imoto from Studio Lasso, based in the heart of London.

Tranquil Reverie: A Homage to Tradition

Our mission with the Japanese Summer Garden was to pay homage to the traditional hydrangea temple gardens, a quintessential scene of Japanese summer. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of this landscape, where lush bamboo and textural moss create a serene backdrop for the rich blue hues of the hydrangeas. It's a harmonious blend of nature's beauty and Japanese tradition.

Subtle Contrasts: Shadows and Vivid Blues

Within this garden, subtle contrasts reign supreme. The play of shadows cast by the bamboo enhances the vivid blues of the hydrangeas, adding depth and intrigue to the scene. It's a masterful combination of 'Simplicity', 'The Beauty of Shadow', and 'Asymmetry,' three pivotal philosophies in Japanese garden design.

Unveiling Tradition: Craftsmanship and Curiosity

The garden embraces traditional techniques that obscure views, inviting curiosity about what lies beyond. Translucent bamboo fences and sporadically placed bamboo stand as both design elements and invitations for exploration. The Japanese Summer Garden opens a window into the unique points of Japanese garden design, fostering a deeper understanding of this rich tradition.
